FIRST LIEUTENANT WILLIAM J. McGUIRE, O1315709, 330th Infantry, United States Army. For gallantry in action on 14 January 1945 near Cherain, Belgium. Although Lieutenant McGuire had suffered extreme exposure during the preceding day and night, he readily organized his company and mounted them on tanks to make a daylight attack on Cherain, Belgium. Realizing that the attack would result in almost certain death for those riding in the first tanks, he unhesitantly mounted one of the leading tanks in order to inspire the members of his company, and mounted his remaing officers on the succeeding tank. The outstanding gallantry, personal courage and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant McGuire reflect the highest credit upon himself and exemplify the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States. Entered military service from New York. Residence 1386 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn New York.
