Remarks According to the memoirs of Frank Monan, Co. A 331st, 1st. Lt. Joseph C Bates was original cadre for Company A, 331st and severly wounded on July 5th, 1944.

This is confirmed by the morning reports. First Lieutenant Bates was a member of A Company. The morning report for June 9, 1944, shows 1LT Bates joining A Company per June 7, 1944 while the unit was still in Tarporley, Chesire, UK. The morning report for July 5, 1944 on page 6 lists him as severely wounded in action and transferred to the 128th Evacuation Hospital. The pages can be seen below. Since have no later documents we assume that First Lieutenant Bates died while serving in A Company.
