Remarks 2LT Godfrey was a member of Battery A. The morning report for August 2, 1944 The morning report for August 23, 1944 on page 23 shows him joining from the 53rd Replacement Battalion. Page 23 can be seen here.

The website of Jim West at www.indianamilitary.org actually has the after action report for January 1945 at Units->322nd FA which mentions 2LT Godfrey's death:

In the first assault on Petite Langlir on 10 January 1945, a forward observer of the Bn, a 1st Lt. James A Logan, was killed by enemy s/a fire and at the same time, Cpl Eugene L. Bracey lost his life from the same causes.
The forward observers had no snow camouflage at the time and lacked other camouflage material such as face nets for use when observing.
2d Lt. James E. Godfrey, another forward observer, was killed on 16 January after the town of Honyelez had been occupied by our infantry by enemy snipers.
