The commendation is listed in General Order 188 which can be seen here and writes: PRIVATE FIRST CLASS CYRIL MEYER, 35127922, Infantry 329th Infantry, United States Army. For gallantry in action on 2 March 1945, at Neuss, Germany. Private Meyer was acting as radio operator for the forward observer with company I. In the advance, Company I met heavy flat trajectory 20mm AAA fire at a range of 150 yards which temporarily pinned the company down. Private Meyer retarded in weight with a 300 radio, attempted to move across open terrain to the forward observer’s position. In so doing he was fatally wounded by the intense fire. His conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon himself and exemplify the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States. Entered military service from Kentucky. Residence: 817 Highland Avenue, Dayton 10, Ohio. Private First Class Meyer also served in M Company. The morning report for August 6, 1944 on page 6 lists him lightly wounded in action and transferred to the 102nd Evacuation Hospital. |
