Remarks Pvt. Harold G. Miltenberger, 19 of Philadelphia, son of Claude and Margaret, (Parents originally from Philadelphia followed by Drexel Hill and Broomall, Pennsylvania), was reported killed in action July 8, 1944 from wounds he suffered on July 6, 1944, while engaged in the invasion of France.

Harold attended Central High School in Philadelphia and graduated in June 1943.

In September 1943 he was inducted into the armed services. Harold was a member of the 83rd Division 330th Infantry. The Morning Report, that can be seen below, lists Harold as a member of I Company.

Harold's father received the US burial flag used for Harold's services when he was laid to rest in France. Harold's father passed Harold's US burial flag to Bill Burton Jr of Broomall, PA back in the 1980's.

In July 2015 Burton mentioned to Al Quintile, of Philadelphia, that he was in possession of the Harold's burial flag. In August 2015 Al Quintile had the opportunity to visit and pay his respects to Harold at his place of rest in Normandy, France and later located the below information.

The photograph of Harold and his high school information was found based on an August 15, 1944 Philadelphia "Evening Bulletin" newspaper article that listed Harold killed in action on July 8th, 1944.

It is planned that Harold's US burial flag will be donated to Central High School in Philadelphia to honor Harold's memory and his ultimate sacrifice.

Submitted by Al Quintile and Bill Burton Jr.
