Remarks Erwin Derhaag pointed me to a newspaper article from The Indiana Gazette - 5 September 1944. From this article partially quoted:

Word has been received by Mrs. H. Miles McAfoose, that her husband, Private Miles McAfoose, had been killed in action in France, August 13th. He was serving with the US Infantry.

The deceased entered the service December 1943 and was sent overseas June 1944.

He is survived by his wife Helen Dugan McAfoose and a year old daughter Patricia Ann and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McAfoose of the corner Thirteenth and Philadelphia street, one brother, William B. of Indiana and one sister, Mrs Carl Smith of New Bethlehem.

He was born May 6th, 1917 and was home on his birthday May 6th for his last furlough. He was graduated from the Indiana High School, and was employed by the McCreery Tire and Rubber Co. before being drafted. He was first sent to Camp Walters, Texas and later to Camp George Mead e, MD. It is thought he landed in England the end of June.
