Remarks	The following information was provided by Renee Steinig: Solamon Rosenbaum was born in Jasien (now Yasen, Ukraine), a village then in Poland. On December 23, 1938, when he was 16, Solamon arrived in the United States, aboard the SS Pilsudski, sailing from Danzig. According to the ship's manifest, he was to join his uncle Harry Weitzner in Brooklyn. By June 1942, according to his World War II draft registration card, he was working for Weitzner & Rabinowitz, a fur company owned by Harry, another uncle, and a partner. Sol *** as he was called in America *** entered active service on December 23, 1942, four years to the day after he arrived in New York. By then, his mother Chawa and his two half sisters, Feiga and Hadassah, had been deported to Bolechow, a larger town about 40 miles northwest of Jasien. According to a cousin***s testimony to Yad Vashem, they perished in Bolechow that year *** probably in the Nazi ***Aktion*** in September 1942, when about 1,500 Jews were murdered in a three-day rampage and about 2,000 more were sent to the Belzec death camp. On 4 November 1943, at Fort Leonard Wood in Pulaski County, Missouri, Sol married his sweetheart, Esther Gordon. They were married for eight-and-a-half months when he died of injuries suffered at the battle of Normandy.
