Remarks | Technical Sergeant Arthur H Schroeder was a member of A Company. The morning report for July 20, 1944 on page 30 and 31 lists his promotion to Staff Sergeant. The morning report for August 2, 1944 on page 5 lists his promotion to Technical Sergeant. Page 8, for August 8, 1944 of the same morning report lists him as Killed in Action. The relevant pages can be seen below. Jane Ries made a write-up on T/Sgt Schroeder based on some old newspaper articles: Technical Sergeant Arthur H. Schroeder, the youngest son of Chris Schroeder, was killed in action in France on August 8, 1944, according to word received from the War Department on August 30. Sgt. Schroeder was born July 3, 1918, the son of Chris and Minnie Schroeder at the family farm near Beecher City, Illinois. He attained the age of 26 years and one month at the time of his death. T/Sgt. Schroeder had received the Purple Heart having been wounded in action a month before his death. He entered the Army on October 1, 1940, serving 17 months in Iceland. He returned to the states in August 1943. Sometime in April of 1944, he was sent to England and in June he was sent to France, where he took part in the Invasion. He was with the 330th Infantry 83rd Division and rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. He leaves to mourn his departure his father, one brother, two sisters, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Minnie. A memorial stone for Arthur H. Schroeder is located at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Shumway, Illinois. He is buried in Brittany American Cemetery, St James, France. Rest in Peace, Arthur...... You are not forgotten. |
